About Aric

Aric is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the University of California, San Francisco. He co-directs the UCSF Aging, Metabolism, and Emotions Center, is the Interim Director for the UCSF Center for Health and Community, and serves as clinician at the UCSF Insomnia Clinic. Aric completed his PhD in Clinical and Biological & Health Psychology at the University of Pittsburgh as well as a predoctoral clinical psychology internship in the Medical Psychology track at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health and Society Scholars program housed jointly at UCSF and the UC Berkeley School of Public Health.

Aric’s research program focuses on the causes and consequences of insufficient sleep, with particular interest on how poor sleep impairs mental and physical health, including immunity and heart health . His research has been supported continuously by the National Institute of Health and spans large scale analysis of populations down to laboratory based experiments and everything in between. Aric’s research is regularly featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Today Show, and NPR.

He is a sought after public speaker and routinely speaks with small and large businesses about how to improve sleep, reduce stress, and promote optimal well-being.
